David Meier, tenor

Spinto tenor David Meier has performed in North and South America, as well as Europe.

As a child, he attended school in Europe and the United States. As a young adult, he trained as a dancer with Joffrey II Ballet, Alvin Ailey and Alwin Nikolais dance troupes, and as an actor in New York City with HB Studios. He competed successfully as a mime throughout Europe.

His Don José was first directed by Licia Albanese; Radames conducted by Milen Nachev, principal conductor of the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra; and Manrico developed by Simon Simeonov, a location director for the film epic Troy, starring Brad Pitt.

Role development and preparation work has been supervised by the late Charlie Riecker and Steven Crawford of the Metropolitan Opera, as well as Ira Siff, founder of La Gran Scena opera company and a frequent contributor to Opera News.

Other roles performed include Cavaradossi, Turiddu, Rodolfo, Pinkerton, Hoffmann, Judge Danforth in Crucible, Lenski and Arturo. Roles developed include Canio, Hermann in Pique Dame, Florestan, the Dons of Giuseppi Verdi (Don Carlo and Don Alvaro), Calaf, Peter Grimes, and Paul in Die Tote Stadt.

As a producer and director, he founded Cantiamo Opera Theater in New York City as an alternative performance venue for developing as well as established singers to pursue classic opera as well as participate in the presentation of new compositions. Cantiamo Opera Theater is a resident company of the West End Theater in New York City. With Ira Siff, he has produced two separate opera cabaret acts in New York City: Two Divas and a Tenor, as well as Three Divas and a Tenor.

He is working with composer Brian Kerns to develop the role of Gentle in the forthcoming three-part opera, The Imajica, based on the characters and storyline of the same name by Clive Barker.

“The Imajica: five Dominions, four bound together--reconciled with one another--and one, the Earth, forever cut off from her brothers, her inhabitants living in ignorance on the edge of a sea of possibilities, an ocean of mystery and magic. Only very few know of the Imajica, and of those, many are frightened. For a time is coming, a time of great risk, a time of great promise. A time of Reconciliation.” (courtesy of www.clivebarker.com)
